John Mathew

John Mathew is the Group Financial Controller at Evolution Group Holdings, responsible for the overall financial stewardship of the organisation across its four operating segments: Corporate, Traffic, Fleet, and Civils. With a strong background in strategic finance, corporate reporting, and business transformation, John plays a pivotal role in guiding the business through complex financial challenges and ensuring long-term sustainability.

A Chartered Accountant with over a decade of experience across diverse industries—including healthcare, construction, financial services, and not-for-profits—John specialises in financial leadership during periods of high growth and organisational change. Prior to joining Evolution, John held senior finance roles, including Director of FP&A and Group Financial Controller, and led consulting engagements focused on budgeting, forecasting, and automation.

John holds a Bachelor of Business and Psychology from QUT and a Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting from CAANZ. He is passionate about improving financial literacy within organisations and is a strong advocate for data-driven decision making. John also has a keen interest in applying advanced analytics and AI to modernise finance functions and drive operational efficiencies.

During a long weekend trip, I drove through a work site and was very impressed with the site setup and the cheerful traffic controller on duty. The traffic controller was happy, smiling and waving to all motorists while keeping everyone informed about the reasons for the delays.”
